If you didn't recently change your system then your internet service is blocking infections. In which case you may have to virtualize it. You have to put a third party firewall on. With Windows XP and much more powerful computers being sold, most people moved on to Windows XP and eventually Windows 7. The latest version that works with Win98 is 6.1.744.001 which can be found here - http://www.oldapps.com/old_version_download_ZoneAlarm.php.I just found that out after "reviving" an older pc I have. Also, i was told that there is a version of Advanced windows care for win98…Any thoughts??
If you do you will have to let the anti-virus know that it can let limewire download onto your computer. Perhaps.It's coming up on 9 yrs and I'm still lucky.Turn off sharing and w98 is a pretty tough nut to crack.I suspect you left a door open and someone waltzed in. If you still have Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, or Windows ME, using Internet Explorer is the surest way to infect your newly orphaned computer with viruses, spyware, and malware.
It's best to have all your updated drivers ready in an offline disk, but make sure the drivers for your network card or modem are available. An old firewall is better than no firewall. You can find routers on the shelves of every major big box retailer including Wal-Mart and Office Depot. Get a firewall I've also been saying this since 2004.
